Product Overview

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a fat-soluble, vitamin-like compound produced naturally by the body and found in every cell, crucial for mitochondrial ATP energy production and acting as an antioxidant. Levels decrease with age, disease, or statin use. It's also known as ubiquinone (pronounced you-bee-qui-none), a name that comes from the word "ubiquitous," meaning "found everywhere," because it is present in nearly every cell of your body.

Forms of Coenzyme Q10

Ubiquinone: This is the oxidized form. It's the most common and generally less expensive form. The body must convert it into its active form to use it.
Ubiquinol: This is the reduced, active antioxidant form. It's more readily absorbed by the body, especially in older adults whose ability to convert ubiquinone may be diminished. It is generally more expensive.

Dietary Supplements

Because CoQ10 is fat-soluble and often has low bioavailability, it is formulated into various delivery forms:

1. Softgels (Oil-based): The most common form, where CoQ10 is dissolved in oil (like soybean oil) to enhance absorption.

2. Hard Capsules & Tablets: Often combined with other nutrients or formulated as powder blends.

3. Novel Formulations: Ubiquinol (the reduced form) supplements, or liposomal CoQ10 for better absorption.

Cosmetics and Personal Care

Due to its potent antioxidant properties, CoQ10 is a popular ingredient in the cosmetic industry:

1. Anti-aging Creams and Serums: Applied topically to reduce oxidative stress from UV light and pollution, helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

2. Skin Repair Products: It helps protect skin cells from damage and supports natural energy production in skin cells to keep them vibrant.

Food and Beverage

Sometimes referred to as a "functional food" ingredient, CoQ10 is added to:

1. Energy Drinks: To theoretically support cellular energy metabolism.

2. Functional Foods: Such as yogurts or nutrition bars aimed at promoting heart health or fighting fatigue.

Animal Health

High-purity CoQ10 is also used in premium pet foods or veterinary supplements, particularly for aging dogs and horses, to support heart health and energy levels.
